Protect That Smile With Regular Dental Care Habits Print E-mail
Hate that regular trip to the dentist? Well, if you want to maintain your oral health, I'm afraid that is an imperative. However, you can do your part so that you won't be visiting your dentist as frequently. You just need to perform your own dental care habits to lessen incidences of oral problems.

One of the most common habit you can do is to brush your teeth regularly. This habit alone makes up for a very good dental hygiene. Not only that, it lessens incidences of tooth decay and formation of plaques and tartar. Additionally there is a strong evidence that people who do brush their teeth have lesser risk of heart disease.

In a recent study, it is found that 19% increase of heart disease risk is associated with periodontal diseases. It is pointed out that gum inflammation can cause build-up of plaque in the arteries. This just gives us another reason to regularly brush our teeth at least twice a day.

Another form of dental care is done by flossing. Flossing is regarded as a supplement to brushing your teeth. This will remove any food particle that a toothbrush may not be able to remove. Particularly if the food particles happens to be lodged between your teeth. You can also do this when a toothbrush is not readily available.

Also, if you want to maintain your pearly whites and keep it healthy, it will be good if you avoid food and drinks, that can cause erosion to the enamel or the outer covering of your teeth. Acidic beverages like soda shouldn't be taken prior to brushing. The acid will just make your teeth more vulnerable to erosion of the enamel. But if you must have to drink, then at least use straw. This way, the beverage will not come in contact with the teeth.

Furthermore, it will be good for your teeth if you eat more calcium rich food and beverages like milk and cheese. Calcium are known to strengthen your bones and teeth. And it also doesn't hurt to have more antioxidants that's found in tea and fruits as this helps prevent enamel from decaying.

Lastly, the easiest thing you can do for your oral as well as your overall heath is to drink lots of water. Water has just the right pH that aids in cleaning our teeth. And we all need water intake for proper functioning, might as well make it a part of our dental routine. Plus, it's definitely cheaper than going to a dentist too.
